Call for Nominations for CASCA executive positions
Dear CASCA members,
We are now welcoming nominations and self-nominations to fill out five vacant positions in the CASCA executive board starting in May 2025.
The positions available in this coming cycle are President-Elect, Treasurer, Francophone Member at Large, Communications Officer, and Secretary.
The deadline for nominations is January 15, 2025.
Please find the details for each of these positions below.
1) President Elect (one-year term, May 2025-May 2026, to be followed by one year
terms as President, May 2026-May 2027, then Past President, May 2027-May 2028)
The President-Elect undertakes to learn the policies and procedures of the association, pursues nominees for incoming executive positions, liaises with the organizers of the upcoming conference and consults on other responsibilities with the current President. The President-Elect also sits on CASCA’s Teaching Excellence Award committee and reviews financial reports periodically submitted by the Treasurer and the Executive Coordinator.
We would especially welcome candidates from francophone or bilingual institutional or professional sites.
2) Treasurer (two-year term, May 2025-May 2027)
The Treasurer is the financial officer of the association and has ex-officio status on the
editorial board of the journal Anthropologica. Working in close coordination with the
CASCA’s accountants, they are responsible for:
– Conducting CASCA banking
– Working closely with accountants to prepare the Unaudited Financial Statement
(Annual Report), providing them with necessary information and ensuring accuracy
– Presenting finances at the Annual General Meeting
– Preparing an annual budget
– Providing monthly membership and financial data to the President Elect for spot checking and at Executive meetings
– With guidance from accountants, maintain appropriate, legal, comprehensive, transparent, and accurate accounting procedures
– Completion of the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Registered Information Return form
– Oversee CASCA Insurance, CFHSS and WCAA fees
– Working with the Local Organising Committee for the annual conference on various matters related to the conference’s budget and final statement
3) Francophone Member at Large (two-year term, May 2025-May 2027)
Members-at-Large organize and edit CASCA’s Culture newsletter, which appears twice a year. They are assigned various tasks in consultation with the President. These tend to take the form of short-term, specific tasks that assist the Association, including sitting on the Weaver-Tremblay selection committee, the Salisbury Award committee and coordinating the student travel bursaries together with the Treasurer.
4) Communications Officer
The communications officer oversees all CASCA’s communications, manages announcements of prize winners including posters, banners, etc., and makes recommendations to the Executive concerning the coordination and enhancement of CASCA’s communications.
5) Secretary (two-year term, May 2025-May 2027)
The Secretary is the information officer of the association. S/he is responsible for taking the minutes at the Annual General Meeting and other regular meetings of the executive board, maintaining a record of motions, votes, and reports by CASCA’s executives. They will also work with the executive coordinator to circulate announcements, agendas and reports to the membership and manage CASCA’s elections. The secretary oversees the organization of CASCA digital workspace (Google Drive) and is responsible for renewing CASCA’s nonprofit status and updating its corporate records with CRA. The secretary sits in committees for the Salisbury, Weaver Tremblay and CATE/PEEC awards.

CASCA is an open, participatory association and all members are eligible to serve on
the executive committee.
Nominees are asked to submit a short biography and platform statement.
