CASCA Medical Anthropology Network: Call for Network Chair/s!
The Canadian Anthropology Society (CASCA) warmly invites applications from
members to serve as the next Chair or Co-Chairs of the CASCA Medical Anthropology
Network! Especially welcome are medical anthropologist candidates with a history of
CASCA membership and involvement.
Led by Co-Chairs Dr. Pam Downe and Dr. Sylvia Abonyi since 2022, the CASCA
Medical Anthropology Network is made up of a broad range of anthropologists working
in the areas of science, technology and medicine who study, interpret, challenge,
disrupt and contribute to evidence and best practices across diverse landscapes of
health, illness, sickness, infection, abilities, and disease in Canada and around the
world. The goal of the Network is to support Canadian medical anthropology through
information sharing, knowledge dissemination, and celebration of success.
Currently, the Medical Anthropology Network has 213 members who are connected via
a Facebook Group, X (Twitter), and listserv.
The Chair’s duties require approximately four hours per week, and consist of the
following activities:
(a) preparing the monthly newsletter,
(b) making plans for the Network’s conference activities,
(c) maintaining social media posts and responses,
d) preparing information that the CASCA Executive would request, and
(e) adjudication for the Network’s Best Paper Award.
Persons interested in serving as Chair or Co-Chair are asked to submit a brief message
of intent (e.g., 250-500 words) which outlines expertise and availability to Outgoing
President Emma Varley (cascapastpressort@gmail.com) by April 1, 2024.
Candidates will be assessed by the CASCA Executive; successful candidate/s will be
notified by April 15, 2024. The position will commence following CASCA’s Annual
General Meeting in May 2024.
