Congratulations to Savannah Kosteniuk for being selected as the 2025 recipient for the Canadian Anthropological Society Women’s Network Award for Student Paper in Feminist Anthropology competition. Savannah’s paper can be read in the upcoming issue of Anthropologica. As a Black Feminist anthropologist-in-training, Savannah critically reflects and investigates the ongoing exclusionary foundations of Anthropology that continue to marginalize the Black Canadian experience within the field and beyond the academy. Savannah’s paper explores foundational Black and Indigenous literature that have been and continue to be central toward challenging the geographic and disciplinary boundaries in order to reduce and undo said boundaries, and support a stronger Black feminist anthropology.

Savannah Kosteniuk (she/her) is an emerging ethnographer and researcher with Afro-Caribbean and settler ancestry based and raised on Treaty 4. Savannah’s SSHRC-funded research at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Imaginative Intimacies: An Ethnography of Black and Indigenous Relations and Place-making on the Prairies, explored the meaning of good relations in oskana kâ-asastêki (Regina, Saskatchewan). Trained in both community-engaged and multimodal research methods, Savannah is a member of the Collaborative and Experimental Ethnography Lab at UBCO and is the Media Editor for Transforming Anthropology, the flagship journal of the Association of Black Anthropologists.
