We are seeking to appoint an associate professor, with tenure, in the field of health humanities or critical health social sciences, including, but not limited to, themedical anthropology and the history of medicine. We invite researchers working on a wide range of topics, including infectious diseases, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, noncommunicable diseases, environmental health, disability, cancer, substance use disorders, medical education, health professions, health systems and bureaucracies, the political economy of health, medical therapies and technologies, among others, to apply. We are particularly interested in researchers who study health, disease, or health systems using ethnography, archival research, or other qualitative approaches; work that combines these approaches with spatial, epidemiological, or visual methods is also welcome. The geographic area of interest is entirely open. The research andmust demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinarity and critical inquiry, a command of relevant social theory, and an attention to the intersections between race, racism, and racialization; gender;gender identity and sexuality, economic inequality and social stratification, disability and difference, linguistic, cultural, and religious diversity, and/or nationality, citizenship, migration, and a sense of belonging.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a discipline within the humanities or social sciences, or in a closely related interdisciplinary field. Professional experience and/or a master’s degree in public health are preferred but not required. We are seeking scholars capable of teaching and mentoring undergraduate students with diverse academic interests, experiences, and backgrounds. Candidates must be able to teach an introductory course in health studies, an intermediate-level course in their subfield, and advanced undergraduate seminars in their areas of expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates who have administrative experience in program development and implementation, who demonstrate the ability to lead a multidisciplinary program, and who have mentored faculty and pre-tenure-track students across disciplinary boundaries. For this position, we will only consider candidates who (a) have been tenured and already hold the rank of associate professor or (b) are currentlyundergoing review for tenure at their current institution. In the latter case, finalists will be asked to submit their tenure application materials.
