CASCA Medical Anthropology Network: Call for Network Chairs!

Dear colleagues,
CASCA warmly invites members to apply to become the next President or Co-President of the CASCA Medical Anthropology Network! Candidates for the medical anthropology program who have a history of membership and involvement with CASCA are especially welcome.
Led by co-chairs Pam Downe and Sylvia Abonyi since 2022, CASCA’s Medical Anthropology Network is composed of a wide range of anthropologists working in the fields of science, technology, and medicine who study, interpret, challenge, disrupt, and contribute to evidence and best practices across diverse landscapes of health, illness, infection, disability, and disease in Canada and around the world. The network’s goal is to support Canadian medical anthropology through information sharing, knowledge dissemination, and the celebration of successes.
Currently, the medical anthropology network has 213 members who are connected through a Facebook group, X (Twitter), and a mailing list.
The duties of the chair require approximately four hours per week and include the following activities:
(a) prepare the monthly newsletter,
(b) plan the network's conference activities,
(c) updating posts and replies on social media,
- (d) prepare the information requested by the CASCA Executive Committee, and
(e) the awarding of the prize for the network’s best article.
Those interested in the position of president or co-president are asked to submit a brief statement of intent (250–500 words) describing their qualifications and availability to outgoing President Emma Varley.(cascapastpressort@gmail.com) by May 10, 2024.
Candidates will be evaluated by the CASCA Executive Committee; successful candidates will be notified by May 15, 2024. The position will begin after the CASCA Annual General Meeting in May 2024. Please note that this is a volunteer position and is unpaid.
