Call for Applications for Positions on the CASCA Executive Committee

Dear CASCA members,
We are now accepting nominations and self-nominations to fill five vacant positions on CASCA’s Board of Directors starting in May 2025.
The positions to be filled for the upcoming cycle are as follows:president-elect, treasurer, francophone member in a personal capacity, communications officer and secretary.
The deadline for submitting candidacies is January 15, 2025.
Below are the details of each of these positions.
1) President-elect (one-year term, May 2025–May 2026, followed by a term
of one year as president, May 2026–May 2027, then as past-president, May 2027–May 2028)
The president-elect becomes familiar with the association’s policies and procedures,
recruits candidates for new leadership positions, liaises with the organizers of the
upcoming conference, and consults the current president on other responsibilities.
The president-elect also sits on CASCA’s Teaching Excellence Award committee and
reviews the financial reports submitted periodically by the treasurer and the executive coordinator
.
Candidates from francophone or bilingual institutional or professional settings are welcome. 2) Treasurer (two-year term, May 2025–May 2027)
The treasurer is the association’s financial officer and is an ex officio member of the editorial committee
of the journal Anthropologica. Working closely with CASCA’s accountants, they are responsible for: – Conducting CASCA’s banking operations – Working closely with the accountants to prepare the unaudited financial statements (annual report), providing them with the necessary information and ensuring their accuracy – Presenting the finances at the Annual General Meeting – Preparing an annual budget – Providing monthly membership and financial data to the President-elect for spot-checking and at Executive meetings – With the accountants’ assistance and advice, maintaining appropriate, legal, complete, transparent and accurate accounting procedures – Completing the Registered Information Return form for the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency – Overseeing the insurance fees for CASCA, the CFHSS and the WCAA – Working with the Local Organizing Committee of the annual conference on various budgetary issues and the conference’s final report 3) Francophone member in a personal capacity (two-year term, May 2025–May 2027)
Active members organize and edit CASCA’s Culture bulletin, which is published twice a year. They are assigned various tasks in consultation with the president. These are usually specific short-term tasks to help the Society, including participation on the Weaver-Tremblay and Salisbury awards selection committee, as well as coordinating student travel grants in collaboration with the treasurer.
4) Communications Officer
The communications officer oversees all CASCA communications, manages announcements of award winners, including posters, banners, etc., and makes recommendations to the Executive regarding the coordination and improvement of CASCA communications. 5) Secretary (two-year term, May 2025–May 2027)
The secretary is the association’s information officer. He/she is responsible for drafting the minutes of the annual general meeting and other regular board meetings, for keeping a register of motions, votes and reports from CASCA executive members. He/she also works with the executive coordinator to circulate announcements, agendas and reports to members and to manage CASCA elections. The secretary oversees the organization of CASCA’s digital workspace (Google Drive) and is responsible for renewing CASCA’s non-profit status and updating its corporate records with the CRA. The secretary sits on the committees for the Salisbury, Weaver-Tremblay and CATE/PEEC awards. DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: January 15, 2025
